SCIENCE ENGAGEMENT

Our projects create new ways to engage audiences with science.

During the development of our Aeon web series and app - pre-COVID19 - Cold Star Media was commissioned by the University of Manchester’s Faculty of Biology, Medicine & Health to create specially filmed content based on Aeon’s viral pandemic themes. This content dramatised the impacts of a disease outbreak for students taking a module in the Faculty’s BioInformatics course, leading to increase student engagement and higher pass rates.

From 2016 - 2018, we created immersive live experiences from the Aeon story world for audiences taking part in Manchester Science Festival, run by the Science Museum Group. Our sellout shows placed audiences directly into the Aeon story through a series of dramatic scenarios that mixed cast with a team of real scientists, who were on hand to explain the research that underpins the Aeon’s narrative of genetics and virology.

The art, science and creative development behind Aeon has been shared at a number of UK conferences, including:

  • Pilot Light TV Festival 2018

  • Digi-Create (New Writing North) 2018

  • Northern Lights Writers Conference 2019

  • Science in Public 2019

  • SciArt Conference 2020
